Does Compressing a PDF Keep It PDF/A Compliant?

Do not assume a compressed PDF remains PDF/A compliant because it opens normally. PDF/A conformance depends on requirements that a regular viewer does not fully test. Keep the original archival file, use a copy for any permitted processing, and validate the resulting copy with a PDF/A-aware validation workflow before treating it as compliant.

Why opening a PDF is not a PDF/A result

PDF/A validation checks conformance requirements through a dedicated validation process [1]. A viewer successfully displaying a file is useful for review, but it is not by itself a PDF/A conformance result.1

Use an archival workflow before ordinary compression
