Does PDF Compression Invalidate a Digital Signature?

Do not assume that compressing a digitally signed PDF keeps its signature valid. A digital signature is tied to the PDF content covered when it was signed, and a later change can affect signature validation. Keep the original file, check the signature in the recipient-approved validation workflow, and only process a copy when the document owner confirms that a changed version is acceptable.

Why a signed PDF needs a different workflow

Digital signatures provide a way to verify signing information and document integrity [1]. A visual signature appearance is not the same thing as a valid cryptographic signature. Do not use an ordinary compression result as proof that a signed document remains acceptable.1

Keep the original and verify before changing anything
